Moon Child is a mystical mermaid who calls the ocean off the shores of Kill Devil Hills her home. Legend has it that the name of the town originated from the strong rum that would wash up on the sand hills after ships transporting it would wreck along The Outer Banks coast. Moon Child has lived in the ocean for centuries, and her love for rum has only grown over time. When the moon is full, she swims to the shore to collect the bottles of rum that wash up and sings enchanting melodies. Despite her affinity for rum, she is a kind and gentle mermaid who brings good fortune to sailors who treat her with respect. Moon Child's captivating beauty and mysterious ways have made her a legend along the coast.
